How Grades are Determined
Semester Grade
Each semester is comprised of two quarter grades and one semester exam. The grade for the semester 1, for example, is determined as follows.
Quarter 1 Grade is 40% of Semester 1 Overall Grade
Quarter 2 Grade is 40% of Semester 1 Overall Grade
Semester Exam is 20% of Semester 1 Overall Grade
Quarter 1 Grade is 40% of Semester 1 Overall Grade
Quarter 2 Grade is 40% of Semester 1 Overall Grade
Semester Exam is 20% of Semester 1 Overall Grade
Quarter Grade
Each quarter is comprised of three types of items: homework/classwork, quizzes, and tests. The grade for each quarter is determined as follows.
Homework/Classwork is 25% of the Quarter Grade
Quizzes are 25% of the Quarter Grade
Tests are 50% of the Quarter Grade
Homework/Classwork is 25% of the Quarter Grade
Quizzes are 25% of the Quarter Grade
Tests are 50% of the Quarter Grade
How Grades are Recorded in the Grade Book
Homework/Classwork: the vast majority of homework is graded on completion and checked daily for 5 pts. As long as students have genuinely attempted each question and corrected their work the following day in class, they will receive the 5 pts for that assignment.
Quizzes: There is an in-class quiz typically after 3-5 sections are covered. Quizzes are an opportunity for the students and me to see how they are understanding the material up to this point in the unit and make adjustments before the test. Students are allowed to use their homework for quizzes as both a safety net and for me to ensure some accountability.
**Important**
When I score quizzes in the grade book, I provide a score, out of 10, for each section that is covered on that quiz. I do this so both the student and I can see where the successes and areas for improvement are. For example, if we took a 9.1 - 9.3 Quiz one day, you would most likely see 3 scores in the grade book; one for 9.1, one for 9.2, and one for 9.3. It does not mean we took three quizzes that day. This type of data allows the student to make specific corrections (see Math Gym below) without having to redo topics they have already mastered.
The last section of a quiz, typically ending in .0, is the application and homework section of a quiz. This section tests students' ability to apply their knowledge and hold them accountable for a prior homework question. This section is not eligible for future corrections.
Tests: at the end of each unit, there will typically be a test (with a practice test conducted and gone over in class the prior day or days). Each test is eventually scaled to be out of 100 points and all the tests for a quarter comprise 50% of that quarter's overall score.

Math Gym (Quiz Corrections)
If a student was not as successful as they would have liked on a specific learning target from a quiz, they can sign up to hit the Math Gym and practice that learning target through Khan Academy. In doing so, they earn an 80% on that learning target.
Steps:
1) In order to be eligible for quiz corrections via math gym, they first need to have corrected all the mistakes for that section on the actual quiz they took in class. That makes them eligible for math gym and the eventually 80%.
2) Follow the link below to see all our learning targets. Then click on the one they wish to practice. Once they are successful, either take a picture with their phone or print out the page and show it to me, along with the corrections from step 1, at the end of the next class period.

Parents, please also encourage your child to visit the Math Gym (click on a link below) to practice the learning target skill the night after a lesson, before a test/quiz or after a quiz to boost their understanding, confidence, and grade!
TEST CORRECTIONS
Any eligible student may come in and visit with me about a test retake for a prior test score that was below a 75%, as long as it is still in the same quarter we are in. In order to be eligible, they have to meet the following requirements:
1) Have a filled-in note packet for all sections in that chapter.
2) Have all their homework assignments turned in for that chapter.
3) Have every quiz score (besides the ones ending in .0, which are the application/homework sections of the quiz) up to an 8. Anything below an 8 would require Math Gym.
4) Corrected the problems they missed from the original test.
If a student has met these requirements, they may come in and visit with me about what the test retake entails (note: the max score for the retake is a 75%).
