So that you don't have to hold onto all the Algebra 1 concepts and the physical book until the semester test in June, we are going to take the first half of the semester test (the Algebra 1 portion) next Tuesday. We will use the remainder of this week and next Monday to prepare for the test.
- I have posted a template for the semester 2 review sheet for Algebra 1 below. I would recommend that you fill it out as a tool to review (what you fill out you can use on the test next week). When filling out your review sheet, use your note packets, the book, old quizzes, and HW to find examples to put down.
- I have supplied a second copy that has some of the learning targets filled in that act as examples for you.

- Use today to finish your review sheet (turn it in to Teams by next Tuesday for credit) and begin the practice test for the Algebra 1 portion of the semester test. You will also have next Monday to complete the practice test, but you need to have it finished before the test next Tuesday.
- I have also made a video of me going through an example of every learning target through Chapter 11 (none for Chapter 12 since we just finished that and those should be freshest in your mind). I have shared the video for that here: VIDEO OF MR. CLINCH GOING THROUGH THE REVIEW SHEET (CLICK TO OPEN)
- Please use the video as a way to review and help you fill in learning targets for topics you were unsure of what to write down.
- I have posted the practice test and the answers below (there are 2 pages for the answers, scroll to the second page to find answers to #23-#28). I will post a video of me working each problem from the practice test next Monday.

***Special Announcement*** for DLI Students Next Week
Because we will be done with the Algebra 1 book next week and on to Geometry, on next Wednesday, April 28th or Thursday the 29th, you will need to find time to go to school to pick up your Geometry book and turn in your Algebra 1 book. When you go to the school, you will find a Geometry book containing a sticky note with your name on it on the DLI cart in the main foyer. Grab your Geometry book, leave your Algebra 1 book, and then put the sticky note on your Algebra 1 book so it can be checked back in.

Tuesday, May 4: iReady Spring Assessment
This week is when the district requires that we do our spring testing to see where students are in terms of their math knowledge at the end of the year (used to be the ACT Aspire and now it is a program called iReady). This testing is used to determine if student placement for next year is correct, if students are making the appropriate gains and if not, if support classes like Math Labs or study halls should be recommended for next year. The test typically takes two periods to complete, so we will begin it today and hopefully finish in class tomorrow. If you don't finish in class, you will need to finish on your own time at home.
If you are DLI, to get to the assessment, go to clever.com/in/helenaschools and log in using your district credentials. You will then see the iReady icon. Click it, select the math diagnostic and begin. You can pause at any point by hitting the "x" in the upper right and returning at a later time.

If you are DLI and not working on a float:
If you are DLI and not working on a float:
- Your assignment is to go to the Helena As She Was website (see link below), which is an online database for a variety of Helena historical aspects, pick a topic of your choice and spend 20 minutes researching/reading about it. When you are done, you need to complete the following below where you will answer the questions below and submit to Teams by 3 PM tomorrow.
- When you are done with your little research, on a separate piece of paper or Word doc, answer the following questions and turn it in to Teams by 3PM tomorrow.
- 1) What topic did you learn about?
- 2) Share what you learned and write at least 8 sentences about that topic.
Friday, May 7: Vigilante Parade (No In-Person School)
This year's parade will be museum-style where the floats will be stationary and parked at the fairgrounds and observers can drive by in their car and take in the work students have completed. The parade will be from 12 PM - 2 PM at the fairgrounds, so check out the work done by your schoolmates!
Also, today would have been for our 1.1 - 1.5 Quiz and the rest of our schedule is full, so instead I posted it in TEAMS today just for practice. It is not graded, rather I made it an assignment and then just immediately returned it to you so you can see what the answers are for each problem. Use it to prepare for our Chapter 1 test next Friday.

Tuesday, May 25: Quest Work Day #1
- Our assessment for this chapter is not a quiz or test in a typical sense, but rather a quest. A quest is an assessment that challenges you to APPLY your knowledge and not just regurgitate a procedure back. As the opening paragraph of the document shared below states, "This is your first experience with a “college”-style exam. The questions are not just duplicates of problems you have seen before with the numbers changed. Rather, you have to extend your knowledge to a new situation. As such, you are allowed more resources than you would on a standard high school test. You are allowed to use any non-living resources you can find: books, notes, and even websites and articles on the internet. You may not use (or seek) help from any living source: friends, teachers, parents, relatives, or anyone you may communicate with online or electronically (phone included)."
- In-person students will be provided a hard copy of the quest. DLI students need to print the quest out so their work is organized when they turn in pictures to me on Teams. A copy of the quest has been attached to the assignment in Teams for DLI students.
- You will have three days to work on this quest. It will be due at the beginning of class on Friday for in-person students and for DLI students, you need to send me it through the posted assignment on Teams with four pictures, one for each page, by 3 PM on Friday.
- On Thursday, in-person students will have the opportunity to have a one minute meeting with me in class and they can ask any question they want and I will help them. . DLI students can elect to either set up a Teams video chat with me before or after school on Thursday or elect to send me at most 2 questions on the chat that I will respond to. This is the only part of the entire process a student can get help from any other person.
- Good luck, have fun, and learn!
Wednesday, May 26: Quest Work Day #2
- Make progress on your quest and get your question(s) ready for tomorrow.
Thursday, May 27: Quest Work Day #3 and Day to Ask Question(s)
- Finish up the quest and ask me your question(s) during your in-person meeting (in-person students) or online/Teams chat (for DLI students).
- The quest is due tomorrow.
Friday, May 28: Chapter 12 Justification for 3D Surface Area and Volume Formulas
- Watch the following lesson and take your own notes as you watch the lesson: Justification for 3D Surface Area and Volume Formulas
- Turn in your notes and the two homework problems on the single sheet that I showed in the lesson (I did 6 of the boxes, you had to do the last 2 as homework) to Teams by 3 PM on Tuesday.
End of Semester 2 Announcement
I posed the following message on Teams and wrote it on the whiteboard in class:
The quarter ends next Friday and all items need to be in by 3 PM next Friday, no exceptions! So, go through your PowerSchool and see if you have anything missing (HW, assessments, etc.) you need to get taken care of before then.

Tuesday, June 1: Begin Filling in Geometry Semester Review Sheet
Today we will begin our process of reviewing for the geometry portion of the semester test and we will spend Tuesday-Friday this week preparing for it. Before discussing the plan for review, here is how the semester test week will look for our class:
Monday, June 7: Do the first page of the geometry semester test
Tuesday, June 8: Do the second page of the geometry semester test
Wednesday, June 9 (last school day): In class activity (nothing graded or turned in on this day)
*The semester test will be scored with the same value/weight as a regular chapter test and placed in Quarter 4. Your overall semester grade will then be made up through 50% Quarter 3 and 50% Quarter 4.
Now, below I have posted a document I call a learning target review sheet where I have listed all the skills/sections that could be addressed on the geometry semester test. Your task is to take today and tomorrow to fill in each section with an example problem or notes. What you list on this sheet you are allowed to use on the semester test. I would use old note packets, HW, the book, and prior quizzes to find examples to put down. I have also posted a partially filled in version below the blank copy so you can see some examples.

Thursday, June 3 - Friday June 4: Work Days on the Semester Practice Test
The semester practice test is posted below. It has two parts: multiple choice and the open response. The answer key is posted as well as a video of me working every problem from the practice test (see link below).
Please reach out if you have any questions as you prepare. You don't have to turn this in, it is just for practice.
On Friday, in-person students will have an opportunity to check their textbook back in if they would like, so please bring it. If you want to keep your textbook to use to study from, you'll need to return your textbook to the library yourself when you are done.
DLI students, you can check your textbook in any time going forward by bringing it the school library during regular school hours.

Do not be afraid to say hi to me when you see me in the real world! I wish all of you the best and while I hope you do well, I truly hope you always put doing good first.
