Steps for Each Day in Honors 1
For each typical day,
- I will list the section that is to be covered and the pages in the book you should read to familiarize yourself with the concept.
- I will post a recorded video of me completing the lesson. You need to watch it and fill in the note packet as you go along. I may check note packets at some point.
- I will list the assignment for that day, but you can also consult the assignment sheet. You can check your answers in the back of the book, by going to where they are shared on this website (your class -> Notes/HW Solutions -> Click on the "HW Solutions" button and follow forward), or clicking the button below. Be organized with your assignments. Each assignment should start on a new page. At the top of the assignment you should list the section and problems. For example, "11.4/11.7 Page 701 #3, 4, 10, 47 and Page 723 #9"
- If that day would correspond to a quiz, I will have a quiz posted in Teams that you will click to take. You are free to use your homework, notes, and calculator, but should not be using anything or anyone else. I understand I will not be able to monitor whether you used anything else, but I am reminded of the following quote, "You are who you are when no one is watching." Your character is the biggest trait you have. *You will have until 3 PM the day the quiz is administered to complete it. For example: if the quiz corresponds to September 8, you need to complete the quiz by 3 PM on September 8th.
- Tests will be conducted using Teams as well, so you should hold onto all of your materials and pay close attention to the practice test when studying. You will have until 3 PM the day the test is administered to complete it, just like a quiz. For example: if the test corresponds to September 8, you need to complete the quiz by 3 PM on September 8th.
- If we start a new chapter, I will post a PDF of the notes and worksheets for you to print off.
- If you do any assessments late that that haven't been graded for over a week, please notify me in case I missed it. Late assessments earn a maximum of 70%, so complete them on time!
- If you ever have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me at [email protected] and I will respond as quickly as I can.

DAILY PLANS
Week of Aug 31 - Sept 4
DLI students, this first week is for class introductions and for me to give a run-down regarding how the class will run. Your only tasks are to watch the two videos below and then email me ([email protected]) saying that you did indeed watch the videos and asking if you have any questions. That is it for this week and have a happy Labor Day on Monday!
Mr. Clinch Introduction
In the video below I introduce myself to the DLI students.
Introduction to the Course Video for DLI Students
The video below acts as the first day discussion where we go over the syllabus, materials, class expectations, how the course runs, etc. Please watch it and reach out to me if you have any questions. To find all the first day handouts described in the video, click the button below the video. In-person students will be presented this material in person.
Sept 8 - Sept 11
These first few weeks are going to be unique compared to the schedule for the rest of the year as there's going to be a little mixing and matching between days. What I mean by that is what the in-person group is doing may not necessarily be the same as what the remote learners are doing on the same day.
This week will be for you to introduce yourself to me and then do the first few lessons.
The week after that we have district testing, so the online workload will be a little less as the in-person students will be testing when in class this week.
September 21 is when we will be completely on track and not working through any beginning of the year items anymore. By this day, everyone will be learning the same thing on the same day. If you are in person you will get the live lesson and if you are remote, you will get a polished, pre-recorded video of the same lesson.
We will beginning the first unit this week that covers Chapters 1 and 2. These chapters are an overview of things that the book expects you to know coming into the course as they are late 7th/early 8th grade standards, which is why I have selected only a handful of the sections to review through lessons. The other sections of the chapters you will review on your own through a "Boot Camp" activity that will be next week.
The assignment sheet and note packet that go along with the lessons for Chapters 1 and 2 are shared below.

Sept 14 - Sept 18
This week is when the district requires that we do testing to see where students are in terms of their math knowledge at the beginning of the year (used to be the ACT Aspire and now it is a program called iReady). This testing is used to determine if student placement is correct, if students are making the appropriate gains and if not, if support classes like Math Labs or study halls should be recommended. The test takes two periods to complete, so the days when students are in-person this week they will be completing the iReady test.
The other three days (for A-day and B-day students) are for students to complete the other topics in Chapters 1 and 2 by completing the boot camp activity (PDF linked below).
A video describing the steps for this week regarding boot camp can be found here: https://www.loom.com/share/15aaefd1e5e64de2aa9cbe6a9de2b820
As the document states,
"Due to the fast-paced nature of an honors course, we do not have the time at the beginning of the year to thoroughly review skills from prior math classes. Instead, in class we will cover the highlights of Chapters 1 and 2. It will then be your job to go online (on your own time at home) and complete the learning targets (located in Math Gym) for Chapters 1 and 2 listed below. Any questions pertaining to the learning targets listed below are fair game for the Chapter 1 and 2 test. If at any point you have questions or are struggling, come in and work with me before or after school. After you finish each learning target, have a parent or guardian initial to verify you and you alone completed it in a genuine manner. Some sections have more than one box that needs to be initialed because they have more than one module that needs to be completed as there are multiple links.
This will be due by the Chapter 1 and 2 Test for 15 HW points. To locate these skills, go to our class website (chsclinch.weebly.com), click Honors 1, then select Math Gym. Watch the video attached to each learning target before attempting the questions, if needed."
DLI students will be expected to spend two days completing the iReady test and then use the other three days to work through the Boot Camp review. It may take you more than three days to complete, so plan accordingly as it is due when we take our test for the chapter. Please email me if you have any questions.

Thursday, October 29: Pumpkin Carving Using Equations
- Today, you are going to carve a pumpkin (electronically) using math!
- Open the PDF below and follow the directions. The class code you will need to use is 2PDRJW.
- I have made a video of me going through the directions that you should watch first! Here it is: How to Carve Pumpkins Using Math!
- Desmos saves your progress and I can go in and check it (like a Google Doc). So, when you're done, just close the page!
- You are to carve either a complete face or a pattern of some sort. When you are all done, your work will automatically save and then I can check to give you credit. Your carving is due by 3 PM tomorrow.
